AAC Implementation Training Handbook Resource T... $39.97 USD
The AAC Handbook and Toolkit is a great resource for educators who want to ensure the entire team (parents, teachers, support staff, etc.) has the knowledge and resources necessary for implementing and teaching AAC.   My love of AAC began years ago, when I worked with my first AAC client fresh out of school- an amazing girl with Cerebral Palsy who opened my eyes up to the world of AAC. Along the way I've learned that many of us, no matter how great our intentions are, struggle to implement AAC in a way that works for students & their teams.  My passion and goal is to make AAC implementation more straight-forward (and more enjoyable because AAC is so dang necessary)! This AAC handbook gives you the information you need to get the whole team (teacher, SLP, professionals, paraprofessionals) on board with current AAC strategies.  This resources includes three sections as follows: AAC Training Handbook  AAC Toolkit  the visuals and materials you need to embed AAC naturally throughout the day.  + Video Instruction for each material to ensure the team knows how to implement each strategy effectively.  AAC Data Sheets  AAC Participation Plan   As a licensed SLP, I've had a lot of experience with AAC.  I've witnessed, many times over, that AAC success hinges on one very important factor: consistency. AAC users need and deserve consistent exposure to communication and modeling.  To get this consistency, they need all important members of their life on board with their communication system.  It's no secret that many educational teams struggle with AAC consistency.  Do I believe that this happens because teams don't care or put in the effort?  No.  I believe it happens because teams need more support. A handbook can help people learn the basic skills that they need.  (And that's why I wrote one!)   But I don't believe in stopping at a handbook. I believe in supporting teachers and educational professionals in incorporating AAC into classrooms in a way that is simple, cohesive, and natural.  So, enter the AAC in the Toolkit. This kit delivers a plethora of materials to get you started with ease.  Because your team doesn't just need AAC info dumped in your laps- - - You all need practical ways to help you implement what you've learned. This resource also includes data sheets, classroom visuals, Google Slides access to edit the icons, core vocabulary boards, clear directions for modeling, AAC research citations, staff handouts, and so much more! This packet does not include information about AAC assessment (which is really a separate training that is valuable to seek out).  It is also important to note that this product may be used with any type of AAC.  It will not give any device-specific information. If you have any questions about this packet, please email me at krystie@adapted4specialed.com and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.   Spanish parent handbook is included.  ___________________________________ Copyright © AdaptEd 4 Special Ed Permission to copy for single classroom use only. When you teach your students CORE vocabulary, you're giving them so much more than just a few words.  You're giving them the words they need to start a conversation, to comment to a friend, or to ask for something they want, or interject into a conversation. Simply put, you're giving them the words they need to communicate. Instead of teaching your student to say- "Apple...Apple...Apple" by handing them a laminated picture of an apple. They'll be able to say- "want more" or point and say "there" to indicate where their snack is. Core words are the words we all use to communicate with each other every day. Give your students the words they need to develop true language skills, don't hold them back to simply requesting items that are in their immediate vicinity. Are you ready for the best part? Teaching core words are... way easier than picture exchange systems! No more printing/ cutting/ laminating the same set of nouns, only to have them destroyed or lost in a few days. If you're teaching non-verbal students you can use a speech generating device or the low tech version- core boards (we've supplied you with a link if you don't already have one) and you just print and laminate, that's it, everything they need is just on one page, and no more moving pieces to lose, it's amazing! We hope you're ready to switch over, and Go CORE. This packet has everything you need to get started! This packet is HUGE!  It provides a plethora of resources to your students engaged and communicating. With CORE language the focus is on getting students to truly develop their language, by understanding the words and how they are used in conversation.Get started with focus word sets. For example, they will put the girl walking up the starts in 'up' and the man cutting a tree down in 'down'. This is a dual task- first the student will say “open” as they go through and take the lid off of each container, revealing some small item inside (we like to use small birthday bag toys, or other goodies we can find at the dollar store). Secondly, they will say “close” as they go back through the containers, this time placing the items back inside and the lids back on. Open It: Unwrapping Presents- In this activity, students will take turns unwrapping and wrapping presents. presents. To “open” the presents, the student will say “Open it” and then proceed to remove the gift wrapping and find out what’s underneath! Make It: Make a Face Task Bin- Students use the phrase “make it” as they choose the face, eyes and mouth to complete each picture. Choice Making Task Cards- Choice Making Task Cards. Have your student look at the two pictures and decide which one they would choose to make. Same / Different: Which One Is different?- In this activity, students will look at three pictures and identify which one is different. For example, they may see three pictures of dogs but one dog may be wearing a collar while the other two are not. Find The Same- The student looks at a card and finds all of the items that are the “same.” These task boxes and task cards are a great way to ensure that your students are getting daily practice with their core vocabulary words. That’s 11 complete core vocabulary tasks- totaling 104 pages of communication practice! They are also great for working with paraprofessionals!
